Jesse Williams Pleads With People to Vote Because It’s Their Job

Jesse Williams tells people its their job to vote in a new PSA.

Jesse Williams continues his activism by pleading for people to vote in a new PSA. Williams famously shook everyone to the core this summer with his show stopping Humanitarian Award acceptance speech at the BET Awards, where he talked about the Black Lives Matter movement and police brutality.

Williams appears solo in the PSA for the Save the Day super PAC, which focuses on getting people to be “heroic” and vote. In it, he addresses typical responses one may hear from people being told they should vote: "democracy is a sham,” “the system is rigged,” and so on.

“This is not about the White House, this is about your house,” Williams reminds viewers. But in order to control what happens in your house, he argues, you have to be registered to vote. Williams explains that there are a lot of things you can’t do if you’re not registered, like choosing local officials. “You can’t decide which measures will help your family and community and which will put them at risk,” he says. Williams’ impassioned plea reaches its peak when he tells viewers democracy is a job that took “too goddamn long to get” for people to not vote.

Williams, crowned Wokest Bae by Complex Pop Culture, recently appeared in the Avengers-led Anti-Trump PSA which, like this one, was directed by Joss Whedon and put out by Save the Day. While this Save the Day PSA focuses on voting in a non-partisan way, the organization as a whole is pro-Hillary Clinton, according to media reports.
