Gugu Mbatha-Raw Joins Ava DuVernay's 'A Wrinkle in Time'

Ava DuVernay’s already history making A Wrinkle Time has added Gugu Mbatha-Raw to its cast. DuVernay is directing Disney’s film adaptation of Madeleine L'Engle’s 1963 novel and in doing so has become the first woman of color to direct a $100 million movie.

DuVernay delivered the thrilling news of the Mbatha-Raw’s casting by tweeting a quote from Mbatha-Raw’s character Dr. Murry, a scientist and mother of protagonist Meg. DuVernay tweeted, "Don't hope it was a dream."

A Wrinkle in Time follows Meg as she travels through time in search of her missing scientist father. Mbatha-Raw joins Oprah, Mindy Kaling, and Reese Witherspoon for the cast of DuVernay’s film.

In an interview with Collider earlier this month, DuVernay explained why she took up the Wrinkle in Time film adaptation: "It’s just a classic story... There are creatures; there are different planets. To think about, ‘wow, I could design those planets—that stuff is rare air. And so immediately I was like, ‘I’m in. I’m so in.’ And it’s fun every single day."
