UPDATE 10/21/15:

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciencesannounced on Wednesday that Chris Rock will most definitely be hosting the Oscars. This is good news for the entire planet:

What a time.

See original story from 10/20/15 below.

Next year’s Oscars, the 88th of such occasion, has the easy task of burying this year’s cringeworthy ceremony hosted by Neil Patrick Harris—because you can only go up from there, right? To do so, it seems producers are looking back to one-time Oscars host Chris Rock (Sorry, Kevin Hart) to git ‘er done.

Rock, who hosted back in 2005, is reportedly in talks with Oscar producers, with one of them being former collaborator Reginald Hudlin director of the pilot for Rock’s Everybody Hates Chris. Hudlin was named producer after this year’s big show fell 16 percent in the ratings.

Rock’s opening monologue for the ceremony saw sharp jabs at Hollywood’s diversity problem (nothing’s changed), faking amazement at the whopping four black nominees that year, as well as offering critiques of president at the time George Bush. Watch the monologue below.

The 88th Oscars ceremony will take place on Feb. 28, 2016.
