Twitter shivered with antici...pation, waiting to release strong opinions on the latest remake of a cult musical classic. After the success of Fox’s Grease: Live!, Fox’s Rocky Horror, which follows sweethearts Janet and Brad on a stormy night as they stumble upon the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-n-Furter, an over-the-top transvestite scientist. Originally just looking for a phone, the couple get engulfed by the erotic lifestyle of Dr. Frank-n-Furter, and end up meeting the Dr.’s latest creation—a muscular, blonde man named Rocky. Starring Laverne Cox as the iconic Dr. Frank-n-Furter, with a special cameo by the original doctor himself, Tim Curry, this remake had big heels (and barely-there golden underwear) to fill. The special was not performed live, unlike the Grease remake, and was met with skepticism that it would not live up to the original’s eccentric energy and quirkiness.
Even with Cox’s overall glamorous performance and the energy Adam Lambert brought to Eddie’s iconic scene, Rocky Horror still fell short of expectation.
