Intro

Juneteenth, otherwise know as Freedom Day, commemorates the announcement of the abolition of slavery in the state of Texas in 1865. What began as a Texan holiday is now celebrated in 41 states.

Check out the gallery to find out how this holiday, which Ralph Ellison used as the title for what would have been his second novel, is celebrated.
