The British singer who went viral after singing Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's “Shallow” in a London tube station has become a global sensation.

Charlotte Awbery was invited to perform on The Ellen DeGeneres Show recently, where she sang a powerful rendition of the Star Is Born song. When she sat down with Ellen, she emphasized how the moment in the train station wasn’t orchestrated.

“I was literally on my way to meet my friend ... I’m absolutely overwhelmed by all of this,” the singer said. She explained that she’s a full-time performer who, for the last 15 years, has mostly sung at weddings, pubs, and restaurants. When Ellen mentioned that Awbery’s video has been watched over 60 million times, the singer was awestruck. She added, “My dad’s always said to me: ‘Wherever you are, always sing… Never give up.’ He’s right.”

Ellen ended the interview by giving Awbery a year-long pass for the London Tube and £10,000 in cash.

Last week, YouTuber Kevin Freshwater captured the clip of Awbery singing during his Finish the Lyrics segment, where he asks strangers on the streets in London to sing into a mic.

After Awbery’s video went viral, “Shallow” reportedly began climbing the iTunes chart, placing it back in the top 40. Last year, “Shallow”—from the Star Is Born soundtrack—hit No. 1 on the Billboard 100.
