Eric Kripke, showrunner for The Boys, doesn’t care about Elon Musk’s opinion of his show.
On Thursday (May 21), Kripke reacted to Musk calling the series finale “Pathetic.”
“OMG this is his review of what @TheBoysTV did to Homelander, I’ll never get a better review ever,” Kripke wrote.
Musk’s reaction was to X user @kangminlee, who slammed the show’s last episode.
“The show writers turned Homelander into a Trump analogue, and this is how they choose to end The Boys,” the user wrote. “This entire show was just a deranged sexual humiliation fantasy projected onto Trump. They can't even produce a decent superhero parody without injecting their twisted fetishes into every script.”
The user also included an image of Homelander—both a superhero and the show’s villain—bloodied and pleading as he said, “I’ll fucking suck your dick,” and, “You want me to eat shit? I’ll eat your fucking shit.”
Kripke—who also developed The Boys and served as an executive producer—has admitted as much about the show. In 2022, Kripke told Rolling Stone that Homelander is supposed to be President Donald Trump.
“He’s always been a Trump analog for me,” Kripke told the publication. “The world is getting more coarse and less elegant. The urgency of our team’s writing reflects that. We’re angrier and more scared as the years go on, so that is just being reflected in our writing.”
He also said the character’s trajectory is a natural result of his mix with insecurity and hunger for power, a “deadly combo.”
“All he ever wants is to be the most powerful person he can be, even though he’s completely inadequate in his abilities to handle it. So it’s white-male victimization and unchecked ambition,” Kripke said. “And those issues just happened to reflect the guy who, it’s just still surreal to say it, was fucking president of the United States.”
Musk’s criticism of The Boys is interesting, given that he and Trump engaged in a very public feud last year. After contributing over $277 million to Trump's 2024 presidential campaign, thereby becoming Trump’s largest donor, Musk was appointed to co-run the new government organization called the Department of Government Efficiency. He remained in the role until May 2025, when he exited.
Once allies, the pair then turned to foes. From June to September 2025, Musk and Trump attacked each other online, mostly on X and Truth Social, following Musk’s departure.
Even with their beef, Musk was among a delegation of U.S. executives who accompanied Trump on his trip to Beijing earlier this month. According to Al Jazeera, Trump traveled to China to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping and discuss several issues, including trade, technology, and artificial intelligence.
