Sean Kingston’s legal team has filed a pardon application on his behalf, which includes letters from celebrity friends such as Soulja Boy, Safaree and Jack Doherty.

According to TMZ, Kingston is seeking a presidential pardon from Donald Trump, similar to the commutations previously received by Lil Wayne, NBA YoungBoy and Kodak Black. Kingston’s legal rep told the outlet that the pardon application has been filed.

Kingston was sentenced to three years in prison, and his mother, Janice Turner, was sentenced to five years after they were found guilty of defrauding businesses for millions.

TMZ obtained the paperwork and reviewed some of what Soulja, Safaree and Doherty had to say about Kingston. According to the outlet, Soulja called the situation "heartbreaking and wrong," and appears to understand Kingston and his mother’s predicament, given his own history of legal issues.

Safaree, who has a strong bond with Kingston through their shared Jamaican heritage, said that "this is the type of injustice [Trump has] been trying to combat," while Doherty said that he’s built a personal relationship with Sean and Janice, and wrote that "getting caught up in a complex business misunderstanding isn't the America he believes in."

In August, Kingston filed to appeal his prison sentence after being found guilty of wire fraud, securities fraud, and aggravated identity theft. Prosecutors say that over the course of roughly a year, starting in April 2023, Kingston amassed over $1 million of products from various luxury vendors through the use of fake wire receipts.

His mother, who was involved in the scheme, was sentenced in July. Like her son, Turner was found guilty by a federal jury of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud in April. At the time, both Kingston and Turner were facing up to 20 years on each count.
