Robert De Niro Says His 7th Child Was Planned, Actor Is 'Excited'

More details about Robert De Niro’s new baby have been revealed.

Gayle King reported on CBS Mornings that De Niro welcomed a daughter, named Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro, on April 6. The baby girl is named after the actor’s mother and will go by the nickname Gia.

News of De Niro’s child earlier this week, and King was surprised to learn about it after interviewing the 79-year-old about his new movie, About My Father on Saturday. She says that she called him to ask him about his baby, to which he apparently said, “I actually thought about [mentioning] it, but we were discussing the movie and I didn’t want to take anything away from the movie. I just didn’t want to do that. And it didn’t come up.”

King said that while they were on the phone, she asked him if she could break the news about the baby’s name and date of birth, to which she said De Niro responded, “‘Okay.’”

She also asked him if he wanted the baby, to which he reportedly said, “‘Yes.’” King continued, “This baby is planned. They both wanted this baby. They’re over the moon. … He’s very psyched and very excited about it.”

The world found out on Monday that De Niro welcomed his seventh child with girlfriend Tiffany Chen, during an interview with ET Canada. Prior to the birth of their first child together, Chen was only rumored to be his significant other.

The pair first met in 2015 on the set of the movie, The Intern, in which Chen had a role. They weren’t romantically linked until August 2021, almost three years after De Niro parted ways with his now ex-wife Grace Hightower.
