Kanye West’s latest music video for “Eazy” depicts the rapper burying an animated version Pete Davidson, a jarring image that rubbed some people the wrong way. Shortly after Kanye posted the video on his Instagram, one of Pete’s colleagues took to social media and vouched for the actor and comedian’s character.

James Gunn, who directed Davidson in The Suicide Squad, posted a tweet describing Davidson as “generous” and “tender.”

“For the record, Pete Davidson is one of the nicest, sweetest guys I know. A truly generous, tender & funny spirit, he treats everyone around him with respect,” he wrote.

Kim Kardashian appeared to cosign the director’s tweet with a “like,” according to the Instagram account Comments By Celebs.

Ye shared the video to his Instagram on Tuesday, in which the claymation version of Davidson is kidnapped, tied up, and buried alive. The visual arrived the same day that both Ye and Kim both became legally single amid their divorce.

Kim and Davidson started dating late last year, and Kanye has publicly taken issue with it, with the rapper taking repeated shots at Davidson while also sharing screenshots of text messages with Kim. He later said he would take “accountability” for his actions.

“I’ve learned that using all caps makes people feel like I’m screaming at them,” he wrote on Instagram. “I’m working on my communication. I can benefit from a team of creative professionals, organizers, mobilizers, and community leaders. Thank everybody for supporting me. I know sharing screen shots was jarring and came off as harassing Kim. I take accountability. I’m still learning in real time. I don’t have all the answers. To be [a] good leader is to be a good listener.”
