While it seemed like Mo’Nique and Lee Daniels might have parted ways for good, following the success of their 2009 film Precious, the two have reunited for a new film.

Deadline reports that Mo’Nique will star in Daniels’ forthcoming Netflix film package Demon House, as a replacement for Octavia Spencer. Spencer was slated to appear in the film but had to back out since to film her Apple TV+ television show Truth Be Told around the same time.

Mo’Nique and Daniels didn’t speak for 13 years. Precious was the last movie they worked on together, which was a huge success and led to the actress and comedian winning the Oscar for best supporting actress for her portrayal of Precious’ abusive mother.

During that year’s awards season, Mo’Nique alleged that Daniels, Oprah Winfrey, and Tyler Perry blackballed her because she chose to spend time with her family instead of promoting the movie. The three rebuffed her accusations, which reportedly led to her and Daniels not speaking.

Years later, in 2019, Mo’Nique also sued Netflix, claiming racial and gender discrimination after she wasn’t paid the same amount for her stand-up special as other celebrities, who were paid millions. One example she used was Amy Schumer, who Mo’Nique said made 26 times the $500k that Mo’Nique was presented for a 60-minute comedy special.

Demon House follows multiple exorcisms that plagued Latoya Ammons and her three children in Gary, Indiana around 2011. Mo’Nique is set to play a social worker who assists the family through the exorcisms. The cast is rounded out by Andra Day, Glenn Close, Rob Morgan, Caleb McLaughlin, and Aunjanue Ellis.
