Fans will remember 2025 as the year of the Michelle Williams crossover event.
On Thursday (April 17), the singer, Michelle Williams posted a video after her performance in the Broadway musical, Death Becomes Her, featuring her namesake, actress Michelle Williams.
The songstress took to her Instagram to share a clip of her in her dressing room as she feigned signing her autograph on pictures of the actress. The Broadway star then panned the camera over to her Oscar-nominated compatriot.
“Who should I make it out to?" the actress asked, as Williams said, joking, "Would you make them out to me?"
Another clip making the rounds online shows the pair talking onstage at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre, with the caption saying, “OMG, I just watched Michelle Williams meet Michelle Williams at Death Becomes Her.”
It appears that the photos the singer pretends to autograph are ones she recently received from a confused fan who mistook her for the actress.
"‘Dear Michelle Williams, I hope this letter finds you in great spirits,'" she said in an IG video posted on March 10. "'My name is Philip, and I have been an avid fan of your incredible performances in both film and theater.'"
"'Your work in movies like Blue Valentine, Manchester by the Sea, or The Greatest Showman has deeply moved me and many others, showcasing your exceptional talent,'" he continued. "'I am writing to kindly ask if you would consider signing the enclosed photos I have of you. Having your autograph would mean so much for me and my daughter, as we admire your artistry.'"
Williams thanked the fan before adding, "Absolutely brilliant. Her hair is fabulous."
The two rose to prominence in the 1990s, with the singer a member of Destiny’s Child and the actress a star on Dawson’s Creek. Over the years, the waters have been muddied by the former’s decision to act in musicals like Chicago and Once on This Island, and the latter’s decision to also merge acting and singing in the musicals, Cabaret and Blackbird.
