Celebrities are reacting to the sudden passing of Catherine O’Hara. Social media posts from Macaulay Culkin, Pedro Pascal, Seth Rogen, and Justin Theroux, among others, poured in after learning of the shocking news that O’Hara had died.

On Friday, the actress’ reps confirmed that she died at home in Los Angeles “following a brief illness.” She was 71 years old. No further details have been revealed.

“Mama. I thought we had time,” Culkin wrote. “I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say.”

“I love you,” he added. “I’ll see you later.”

Ron Howard, Andy Cohen, Katie Couric, and Rita Wilson also offered their condolences, with Howard writing that O’Hara “was simply growing more brilliant with each year.”

O’Hara’s breakout role was Tim Burton’s 1988 classic Beetlejuice, which she reprised in 2024’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. She later came to be known as Kate McCallister, mother of Macaulay Culkin’s Kevin McCallister, in 1990’s Home Alone and the 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

She also voiced Sally in The Nightmare Before Christmas, appeared in several mockumentary comedies—Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration, had a lengthy run on Canada’s Second City Television, and played Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek.

She earned many accolades over the years, becoming a Golden Globe, Emmy, and Screen Actors Guild Awards winner. Last year, she added two more Emmy nominations to her long list of distinctions, thanks to her appearance in The Studio and The Last of Us.

RIP.
