The fan who grabbed Ariana Grande at the Singapore premiere of Wicked: For Good has been charged.
The BBC reports that Johnson Wen, who went viral this week after hopping over the barricade at the event and accosting Grande, has been charged in court with being a public nuisance. If he’s found guilty, he could be hit with a fine of up to S$2000 ($1,540). Reports from local media say that Wen will plead guilty.
Who is the person who rushed Ariana Grande?
The fan who grabbed the singer and actress is Johnson Wen, who’s previously made headlines for rushing the stage during concerts for acts such as Katy Perry and The Weeknd, as well as being a notorious red carpet crasher. He goes by “Pyjama Mann” online and boasts over 11k followers on Instagram.
What happened at the Singapore premiere of Wicked: For Good?
On Thursday (Nov. 13), at Universal Studios Singapore, Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Michelle Yeoh and Jeff Goldblum were walking the yellow brick road carpet when Wen jumped the barricade and hurtled himself towards Grande.
Video of the incident shows Wen grabbing Grande and putting his arm around her, prompting Erivo to pull them apart and yell as security guards removed Wen. Grande looked extremely shaken by the interaction.
Wen posted a clip of the incident on Instagram, writing, “Dear Ariana Grande Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You.” He also shared an update after the event. “I’m free after being arrested,” he wrote on his IG Story.
Has he done this before?
Wen has crashed several celebrity events in the past. In June, he jumped on stage alongside Katy Perry at her show, and in August, he did the same at The Weeknd’s show before security booted him.
He’s done the same at a Chainsmokers show and even delayed an Olympic event in 2024.
