Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd Bring Bizarre True Story to Life for Apple TV+ in 'The Shrink Next Door' Trailer

Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd will star in Apple TV+'s limited series 'The Shrink Next Door,' which depicts the bizarre relationship between doctor and patient.

Apple TV+ has shared the first official trailer for The Shrink Next Door, a limited series based on a shocking, twist-filled true story.

While we saw a teaser for the project led by Anchorman co-stars Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd back in June, we now get more of how the exploitative relationship between cautious New Yorker Martin “Marty” Markowitz (Ferrell) and Dr. Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Rudd) plays out. The trailer opens with Marty joining Dr. Ike in his office, where Marty reveals he had to be persuaded to try therapy. We then see how Marty and Ike begin to engage in an inappropriate therapist-patient relationship, as they become friends who play basketball together, go to parties, and do much more outside the traditional ethical confines of therapy.

Dr. Ike works to manipulate and use Marty for almost 30 years, with Ike even eventually becoming the president of Marty’s family company. The cast is rounded out by Kathryn Hahn, who plays Marty’s sister Phyllis—with whom Ike clearly has an issue—and Casey Wilson, who plays Ike’s wife Bonnie.

The scripts were penned by Emmy- and Golden Globe-winner Georgia Pritchett and helmed by directors Michael Showalter (The Eyes of Tammy Faye, The Big Sick) and Jesse Peretz (Girls, Glow). Apple TV+’s eight-episode dark comedy is based on the 2019 podcast of the same name, with host Joe Nocera joining as co-executive producer.

The first three episodes of The Shrink Next Door are set to air on Nov. 12, with new episodes arriving every Friday until Dec. 17. Check out the official trailer at the top.
