Amy Schumer has elaborated on her thoughts about Will Smith’s Oscars slap.

Following comments that the comedian made on Instagram, where she said she was “triggered and traumatized” by the incident, she discussed the controversy during her Amy Schumer & Friends comedy show at The Mirage Theater in Las Vegas over the weekend. It was Schumer’s first public appearance since the awards ceremony, which she hosted with Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall.

“This is my first time doing a headlining show since I was pregnant. I am so excited, it feels so good to be back in Vegas,” she said, per Billboard. “We’re gonna talk about everything and the Oscars but I just want to talk about drinking because I have been drinking so much and I am severely hung over.”

Schumer took a more serious tone when discussing the slap. “I don’t even know what to say about the Oscars,” she said. “I have no jokes about it. All I can say is that, I don’t know if you saw this, but Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. Did that cross your newsfeed?”

She went on to explain that the night had been going well until that moment. “I was kind of like, feeling myself,” she said. “I was like, ‘Oooh, somebody’s monologue went well.’ And then, all of a sudden, [Smith] was making his way up and just [motions a slap].”

She called the incident “just a fucking bummer.”

“All I can say is that it was really just sad. It says so much about race, about toxic masculinity, it’s just, everything. It was just really upsetting,” Schumer said.

Since that fateful night at the Oscars, Smith apologized to Rock on Instagram and later resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. However, the Academy is still pursuing an investigation into the matter and there may still be some “consequences” that Smith has to face.
