Aaron Carter's estate has won a partial settlement in a wrongful death lawsuit against a psychiatrist and a mental health clinic.

According to TMZ, the clinic named in the suit reached a settlement with Carter’s ex-fiancée, Melanie Martin, in April. The amount has remained confidential.

Martin filed the wrongful death suit in October 2023 on behalf of the couple's son, Princeton Lyric Carter, who is the sole beneficiary of Aaron's estate. The lawsuit alleged that doctors, mental health clinics, and pharmacies prescribed Carter hydrocodone, oxycodone, and alprazolam with no medical justification, despite awareness of his psychiatric condition. Martin also contended that the drugs led to Carter’s death.

The pop star died in November 2022 at age 34 after his housekeeper found him unresponsive in his bathtub. His death was ruled an accidental drowning caused by inhaling difluoroethane and taking alprazolam, or Xanax.

Walgreens, a Santa Monica dentist, and a Santa Monica pharmacy were also named as defendants in the original suit and do not appear to have settled.

Aaron isn’t the only member of the Carter family to have passed away from accidental drug overdoses. Bobbie Jean Carter died in December 2023 from a fentanyl overdose at 41 years old, and Leslie Carter died in 2012 from a prescription drug overdose. The only Carter siblings who remain are Nick and Angel.
