Though A Quiet Place has been out for less than a month, a sequel is already in the works, according to Deadline. Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Jim Gianopulos made the announcement on Wednesday, though he didn’t supply many details.
Gianopulos shared that he couldn’t have imagined that “Jim” from The Office would write and direct a silent horror film. “It’s the artist with a true vision that makes the improbable happen,” Gianopulos said, congratulating John Krasinski, Emily Blunt, and producer Platinum Dunes.
Gianopulos also spoke on Paramount’s success this fall at the box office, saying that “the right team, culture, and attitude in place [can] take Paramount to new heights. We already started on that road to giant success with A Quiet Place.”
A Quiet Place took No. 1 in its third weekend at the domestic box office and has earned $213 million globally. In its opening weekend, it bagged $50 million to land at No. 1 domestically.
Krasinki’s future as a director seems fairly solid, particularly considering the film’s success with only a $17 million budget. Previously, The Office alum helmed Brief Interviews With Hideous Men and The Hollars, each of which played on a fraction of A Quiet Place's 3,500 screens.
