Vin Diesel Reveals Jordana Brewster and Justin Lin Will Return to Upcoming 'Fast & Furious' Films

Vin Diesel hinted at the returns in a recent Facebook Live video.

Despite all the drama surrounding the Fast & Furious franchise, star and producer Vin Diesel seems very excited about where the saga is going. The 50-year-old actor teased some major details about the upcoming sequels, including the return of director Justin Lin and actress Jordana Brewster.

Diesel shared the news via Facebook Live earlier this week, when he was filming a “top secret” project that involves Lin and Brewster.

“You wanted nine and 10 to be incredible. We've heard, we’ve heard your concerns about the saga and where it needs to arrive to in its final chapters,” he says in the video. “And the crowd goes wild, it's Justin Lin!”

Lin directed four installments of the Fast & Furious franchise—parts three through six. Diesel referred to the director as the “forefather” and “architect” of the “Fast mythology,” and hinted he would return to the director’s chair for the ninth and 10th films.

“[Lin] wanted somebody very important to be here, and it’s someone you’ve all been asking for. It’s someone you all have said, ‘I need to see that character in the next chapter,’” Diesel said. “And so, I’m gonna say hello to someone else: Jordana Brewster! My sister.”

Brewster played Mia Toretto, the sister of Dominic Toretto (Diesel) and wife of Brian O'Conner, portrayed by the late Paul Walker. She said her character did not appear in the 2017 film Fate of the Furious because it wouldn’t make sense following Walker’s untimely death.

“Also, when I think of … It’s strange because Paul’s not in it,” she told Yahoo News back in April. “And Mia is with Brian. It makes sense to me that I’m not there.”

Fast & Furious 9 was delayed from April 19, 2019 to April 10, 2020. Hobbs and Shaw—a franchise spin-off starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham—is expected to hit theaters on July 26, 2019.
