Filmmaker Craig Gillespie has secured an all-star cast for Dumb Money, a much-anticipated film about the GameStop short squeeze that wreaked havoc on Wall Street.

According to Deadline, Pete DavidsonSeth RogenSebastian Stan, and Paul Dano have been tapped to star in the picture, which is based on Ben Mezrich’s The Antisocial Network book that explored the 2021 meme stock craze. Dumb Money was confirmed back in January and was set to drop under the MGM banner, but has since been moved to Black Bear Pictures with UTA Independent Film Group holding the U.S. rights to the film.

Director Gillespie (Cruella and I, Tonya) will begin shooting the film sometime in October. Black Bear is expected to launch sales on the film at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival. The studio has not confirmed exact plot or character details; however, Deadline describes Dumb Money as a “a gripping portrayal of how a loosely affiliated group of private investors and internet trolls on a subreddit called WallStreetBets took down one of the biggest hedge funds on Wall Street, firing the first shot in a revolution that threatened to upend the establishment.”

Dumb Money will also reunite Gillespie, Rogen, and Stan, who worked together on the Hulu miniseries Pam & Tommy.

The director will co-produce the film alongside Ryder Picture Company’s Aaron Ryder and Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman. Rebecca Angelo and Lauren Schuker Blum will pen the adapted screenplay.

“Black Bear has diamond hands for Dumb Money. Lauren & Rebecca have masterfully adapted Ben Mezrich’s exceptional book, detailing one of the greatest underdog stories of our time,” Schwarzman told Deadline. “Craig Gillespie is a tremendous leader with exceptional vision, and has assembled a tremendous ensemble. We’re honored to partner with him, Aaron Ryder, and this terrific team in front and behind the camera to bring Dumb Money to audiences everywhere.”

Stay tuned as more information about the film becomes available.
