John David Washington is making quite a name for himself in Hollywood.

Following his breakout lead performance in the Oscar-nominated BlacKkKlansman, the 34-year-old son of Denzel Washington has been tapped to star in Christopher Nolan's next film. Variety reports the project is set to begin production later this year, with a July 17, 2020 release date. Nolan and Emma Thomas will produce the mysterious project, which has been described as "a massive, innovative, action blockbuster" that will eventually hit IMAX screens. So, whatever Nolan has in store, you know it's going to be something epic.

The director's last film was 2017's Dunkirk—an Academy Award-winning WWII drama that grossed nearly $527 million globally.

Washington has also starred in Dwayne Johnson's HBO scripted series Ballers, as well as The Old Man & the Gun, Monsters and Men, and Love Beats Rhymes. His role in BlacKkKlansman earned the actor a number of award nominations, including a Golden Globe, a Sag, and a NAACP Image Award. Washington spoke about his accolades and recognition during a December 2018 interview with Complex.

"It's definitely unfamiliar territory for me. I'm not used to being received in such grand and respected ways like that," he said. "I don't know if it's weird, but it's definitely unfamiliar. That being said, I'm fans of a lot of people I've been able to be around and meet as of late, so the fact that they seem to, some of them, seem to be positive about the response, I'm like a little kid. I mean, Spike Lee, the fact that this legend thought enough of me to be in it, and thought I did a good job. That kind of validation, I'll take that to the grave, man."
