Get ready, Sesame Street residents: Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is headed your way to “kick some ass.”
The WWE star-turned-Hollywood A-lister issued the warning Thursday morning, when he decided to weigh in on Elmo’s viral feud with Rocco. For those who missed the drama, Elmo began trending on social media this week after a resurfaced Sesame Street clip showed him losing his cool over a pet rock owned by his good friend Zoe.
In the episode titled, “Elmo feels he’s treated unfairly by Rocco,” the usually mild-mannered muppet becomes frustrated after he’s denied an oatmeal raisin cookie. The clip shows Elmo reaching for the last treat, before Zoe stops him and says it’s reserved for Rocco. Elmo then goes off on Zoe, and reminds her Rocco is an inanimate object.
“You can’t have that cookie, Elmo! Rocco wants to eat it!” Zoe says in the 2004 episode.
“How? How is Rocco going to eat that cookie, Zoe? Tell Elmo. Rocco doesn’t even have a mouth,” he shouts back. “Rocco is just a rock. Rocco is not alive.”
After the clip went viral, Elmo released a statement to reassure fans there was no bad blood between him and Zoe. And although he said he doesn’t want to discuss Rocco, it was clear Elmo was still annoyed over the cookie incident: “Has anybody ever seen a rock eat a cookie?” he wrote in a follow-up tweet. “Elmo is just curious.”
Johnson eventually caught wind of the Elmo vs. Rocco saga and decided to hop in with his former WWE persona.
“Yes, my friend. This Rock devours cookies. All kinds of cookies 😈🍪” he wrote. “I’ll introduce you to #CheatMeals and it’ll change your life. Tell Cookie Monster to move it over, cuz I’m coming to Sesame Street to kick ass and eat cookies. And I’m almost all outta cookies.”
Elmo has yet to reply to Johnson; however, Cookie Monster posted the following response:
Though Johnson is known for his intense, high-protein diet, he refuses to deprive himself of sweet treats. This was demonstrated in a 2021 Instagram post that showed one of his late-night cheat meals consisting of sushi and “two big ass chocolate chip cookies.”
