Donald Trump is not retreating from his statement implying that Senator John McCain, who was captured, imprisoned and tortured for more than five years during the Vietnam war leaving him permanently disabled, is not a war hero.
Trump's original comments came on Saturday at a conference for religious conservatives where Trump told the moderator that people believe McCain "is a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."
On Sunday morning Trump appeared on ABC's This Week and told the host that he won't apologize and “I will say what I want to say," according to The Associated Press.
While he was far from apologetic, Trump did say that McCain might be a war hero after all, but feels that many people in the military who weren't captured don't get the credit they deserve. He also slammed McCain again on Twitter this morning.
One thing is for sure, he's not going away.
“I’m certainly not pulling out,” Trump said.
