The Scaring Your Cat With Cucumbers Trend Is Terrible for Cats

People are using cucumbers to scare their cats for Internet videos. They shouldn't do that.

The Internet cat video is already a very tired cliché, but now it's also just kind of messed up, according to cat experts.

First, a little background: There's a new thing on YouTube where people scare their cats with cucumbers (oh, by the way, some cats are pretty scared of cucumbers).

OK, I'm not going to sit here and act like that's not hilarious—I'm only human—but man, somebody's gotta look out for the cats though, right?

And it turns out that having the hell scared out of them with produce is not a fun cat experience at all. This type of startle response could indicate the cats are scared for their lives in a place where they normally feel the safest, animal experts say.

So yeah, you probably wouldn't love it if every time you went to the fridge for a glass of juice you turned around to find a cobra about to bite you. Maybe just give your cat one of those stuffed mice on a string, put the phone away and call it a day.
