Marvel's Avengers: Infinity Wars was supposed to be a two-part film, but according to a new release schedule from Disney, this is no longer the case. The Wrap reports the story will instead be told in one movie. The second Avengers film will still exist, but will have an entirely new title and concept. It is currently being referred to as simply the "Untitled Avengers Project." Infinity Wars will still release on May 4, 2018 as planned, with the new, untitled project also staying on schedule for May 3, 2019.

Despite the seemingly minor details here, this actually represents a big change for the studio. If the story was originally meant to be two parts and has now been condensed to one, how will this affect the second movie? Furthermore, how will it affect the plots of the films scheduled to come between them? Ant Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel are scheduled to release in late 2018 and early 2019 respectively, and it's certainly possible that the changes will affect the plots of those movies.

According to The Wrap, the original plan was for both parts of the Avengers movie to be filmed back-to-back, but it's not totally clear if that will still be happening. Production on the films was set to begin in November. We'll have to wait and see what details emerge surrounding this change, but it's a big switch up for the carefully-planned rollout of the Marvel cinematic universe and its many different films.
