TikTok Famous Judge Frank Caprio Dead at 88

The famous judge often cut defendants a break or taught them valuable life lessons.

Judge Frank Caprio, who made a name for himself across social media by often showing some leniency and offering life advice to his defendants has died.

Judge Caprio's family announced his passing August 20, saying he had fought a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

The family statement says, "Beloved for his compassion, humility, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people, Judge Caprio touched the lives of millions through his work in the courtroom and beyond. His warmth, humor, and kindness left an indelible mark on all who knew him."

It continues, "He will be remembered not only as a respected judge, but as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. His legacy lives on in the countless acts of kindness he inspired."

Finally closing with, "In his honor, may we each strive to bring a little more compassion into the world — just as he did every day."

Judge Caprio often released video from inside his municipal courtroom in Providence, Rhode Island from his show Caught in Providence where he would listen to his defendants explain why they hadn't paid for traffic infractions or other minor offenses.

In the social media clips, Caprio would sometimes totally dismiss a fine or significantly lower it in order to help out defendants who might be facing other hardships.

His viral clips earned him the nickname of "Nicest Judge in the World" on social media.

Just one day before his death, Judge Caprio posted a video to his three million Instagram followers asking for their prayers as his health was in decline.

In the video, filmed from his hospital bed, Caprio said, "Last year I asked you to pray for me, and it's very obvious that you did because I cam through a very difficult period. Unfortunately I've had a setback. I'm back in the hospital now and I'm coming to. you again asking you to remember me in your prayers once more."

Judge Caprio was 88.
