Tyler Perry is officially bringing back his hit relationship drama, though it is unclear when it will hit the big screen.

On Wednesday, July 30, Perry revealed on Instagram that a third Why Did I Get Married? film is moving forward, posting a photo of the script’s title page and writing, “I’m just gonna sit this right here!”

The page also displayed “Table Draft,” signaling the project has reached the table-read stage and could be heading into production soon.

Perry also tagged the core ensemble from the first two films in the post, which included Jill Scott, Lamman Rucker, Richard T. Jones, Janet Jackson, Sharon Leal, Michael Jai White, and Tasha Smith.

Denise Boutte, who played Trina, quickly popped up in the comments to lobby for her return, asking, “Who thinks Trina needs a comeback?!?!”

Smith fueled the excitement with a nod to the franchise’s iconic dinner scene, commenting, “Are we going to be TOGETHER AGAIN,” and then reposting the script photo with a concise “BOOM.”

The renewed momentum caps a long stretch of fan speculation. According to Vibe, interest for a new installment of the film spiked back in October 2024 when Jones posted a playful TikTok referencing his character leaving Sheila (Scott) behind, which set off reply videos from other cast members—everyone except Jackson.

Days later, Perry shared what appeared to be a first draft of the screenplay, adding to the buzz. Hopes dimmed in April when Smith told The Breakfast Club it’s “probably not happening,” and updates went quiet across the board.

Now, with Perry’s public confirmation and the “Table Draft” tease, the franchise’s reunion appears to be on track. Plot details remain under wraps, and there’s no word yet on whether Why Did I Get Married 3 will debut in theaters or land on a streaming platform.
