Donyelle Jones Wilson, a dancer who left a lasting mark on So You Think You Can Dance, has died following a years-long battle with breast cancer. She was 46.

News of her death was shared on Tuesday, December 2, via her Instagram account, where a message announced that Jones Wilson “transitioned” at 8:34 a.m.

The post reflected on the many roles she held beyond the stage, describing her as “a wife. A daughter. A sister. A friend,” and honoring her determination throughout her illness. “A warrior who kicked cancer’s a** every single day she was here,” the message continued, noting that her joy and spirit remained intact even during the most challenging moments.

According to TV Line, Wilson first became widely known during Season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance, which aired in the summer of 2006 on Fox.

She ultimately finished third that season, behind winner Benji Schwimmer and runner-up Travis Wall. One routine in particular became a fan favorite: a high-energy Broadway-inspired performance to “You Can’t Stop the Beat” from Hairspray, danced alongside Schwimmer.

Outside of the competition series, Wilson worked across music videos and other dance projects, building a career rooted in performance and movement.

That trajectory changed in 2016, when she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. The disease later advanced to Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, forcing her to step away from dancing and choreographing.

Even as her physical activity slowed, her voice did not. Wilson used social media to openly document her health journey, regularly speaking about treatment, faith, and resilience while advocating for cancer awareness and early detection.

In a June 2025 Instagram video, she addressed her followers with characteristic honesty. “Right now, I have to choose absolute radical faith, because I am in the fire, y’all,” she said, after sharing that she had received difficult news from her doctor. “I am strapping in, and I am choosing radical faith.”
