Michael B. Jordan is spending most of his time behind a camera these days, but during a recent conversation with David Letterman, the actor admitted he’s also thinking about what life might look like once the work slows down—specifically, becoming a parent.

Jordan sits down with Letterman on Season 6 of Netflix’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, which was filmed in London as the 38-year-old juggles starring in and directing a new take on The Thomas Crown Affair. The two had their talk in a London pub over a pair of darts and some beers.

At one point, Jordan describes his routine as fairly uneventful. “My life is boring,” he tells Letterman, explaining that directing demands near-constant focus.

Letterman immediately pushes back with a deadpan response: “You think it’s boring, you ought to follow me around.”

Letterman then gets into the mundane details of his married life, including his wife, his dogs, and shopping for some much-needed celery. While acknowledging that his schedule doesn’t leave much room for a social life, Jordan says he’s not closed off to what comes next. In fact, he’s actively thinking about starting a family—just cautiously.

“I want to start out small,” Jordan says. “I want a kid. I want children.” He then laughs as he explains his plan: “I figure I got to start off with like plants and dogs.”

For Jordan, the logic is simple and practical. “If I can take care of a plant, I can take care of the dog,” he explains. “If the dog’s cool, then I have a shot.”

Though Jordan has been open in the past about stepping back from dating to focus on his career, fatherhood is something he sees in his future—even if it’s not immediate.

Jordan’s episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman arrives on Netflix when Season 6 premieres on December 16, 2025.
