Authorities in Colombia have recovered the body of Angel Montoya, a 30-year-old influencer whose disappearance followed a livestreamed jump from a bridge into a river. Officials confirmed Montoya was found three days after the incident, several miles downstream from where he entered the water.
According to People, the jump occurred on January 27, while Montoya was filming near a bridge over the Cauca River.
In a clip that spread rapidly across social media, he addresses the camera briefly—saying “see you later” in Spanish—before leaping into the river.
Moments after impact, the video shows him attempting to swim as the current pulls him away.
Emergency crews were alerted to the situation almost immediately. Firefighters from Bugalagrande, along with teams from neighboring municipalities, launched a search operation the same day.
The effort, however, was complicated by swollen river conditions following recent heavy rainfall, which limited visibility and made rescue attempts hazardous.
Search teams continued working the river corridor over the following days. On January 30, workers located a body floating several miles from the bridge and notified authorities. Officials later confirmed the identity as Montoya. Valle del Cauca’s Security of Risk Management office acknowledged the recovery and confirmed the death.
Francisco Tenorio, a representative for the department, addressed the circumstances in comments carried by local media. “It is crucial to urge the people of Valle del Cauca not to risk their lives,” he said. “We are in the rainy season, with nearly 25 municipalities affected by flash floods and torrential downpours. Life is the most precious gift and should not be put at risk.”
Montoya was based in Tuluá, a city in western Colombia, and had built an online following through short-form videos and stunts designed for social platforms. His final livestream circulated widely in the hours after the jump.
Authorities have not released additional details beyond confirming the recovery and identity.
