Guy Fieri is officially trying something new—or at least pretending to.

According to People, the longtime Food Network star surprised fans this week by debuting an unexpectedly clean-cut look while celebrating his 58th birthday, trading in his spiky blonde hair and goatee for something far more corporate, courtesy of an OpenAI creation.

In a video shared on Instagram January 22, Fieri appeared nearly unrecognizable. Gone were the frosted tips, flame shirts, and sunglasses. Instead, he wore a neatly pressed checkered button-down, khaki pants, and a conservative brown hairstyle parted to the side. His facial hair was completely shaved, completing the transformation into a suburban dad heading to a regional sales meeting.

“After so many years of celebrating my birthday as Guy, I figured this year I’d celebrate it as just a guy,” Fieri joked in the clip before leaning over to blow out the candles on his cake. He captioned the post, “New Year. New Guy. New Look.”

The internet—and his inner circle—had plenty to say. Fellow celebrity chef Maneet Chauhan called the moment “the gift of laughter,” while Fieri’s son Hunter delivered the line that summed it all up: “Dad… when did you start selling insurance?”

Hunter later doubled down on the joke by reposting the video on his own Instagram Stories, wishing his father a happy birthday and calling him “just a Guy.” Fieri also shares a younger son, Ryder, with his wife, Lori.

The birthday gag landed because Fieri’s look has been so consistent for decades. He’s previously explained that the spiked hair and tattoos weren’t a TV invention, noting in past interviews that those choices predated his fame. He’s also joked that maintaining the hairstyle takes almost no time at all, brushing it off as a few quick motions and he's done.

While the birthday makeover appeared to be all in good fun, it arrived during a more serious chapter for Fieri behind the scenes. Recently, he suffered a major injury while filming Flavor Town Food Fight. A fall on set resulted in a severe tear in the quadriceps muscle in his right leg—an injury that required emergency surgery.

Fieri later explained that the damage wasn’t to the tendon or bone, but directly through the middle of the muscle, forcing him into a wheelchair and keeping him off his feet for weeks. Doctors ordered a lengthy recovery period, followed by rehabilitation.
