FKA Twigs Says North West Became the ‘Tenacious, Confident Friend’ She Never Had

'I feel like she’s seen so much and she’s so mature in a lot of ways, especially emotionally,' she said.

FKA twigs is reflecting on creativity, healing, and unexpected mentorship as she promotes her latest album EUSEXUA—and one of the most talked-about moments from the project involves her collaboration with North West.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone UK, the artist opened up about working with North West, the 12-year-old daughter of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, who appears on the EUSEXUA track “Childlike Things.”

The song itself dates back to when twigs was barely a teenager, written during a period when she felt isolated and bullied. Revisiting it decades later took on new meaning once North became part of the process.

“I was bullied at school and didn’t really have that really close girlfriendship,” twigs said. Collaborating with North helped rewrite that experience. She explained that the track became a way to give her younger self something she didn’t have at the time: a confident, outspoken peer. “To give the child in me… a tenacious, confident friend like North West, to come and hang out with—it was healing,” she said.

The experience also left twigs impressed by North’s emotional awareness. Despite her age, twigs described North as thoughtful and perceptive in conversation, noting that the two shared dinners where North made observations that felt unusually grounded.

“She said things that were big and profound,” twigs said, adding that some of North’s reflections mirrored lessons she herself learned much later in life.

North’s contribution to “Childlike Things” includes a short rap, delivered in part in Japanese, that touches on themes of faith and identity.

EUSEXUA, twigs’ third studio album, marks a creative shift toward club-inspired soundscapes while still carrying her signature emotional intensity.

The project recently earned critical praise and her highest chart debut to date in the U.K. A deluxe version, EUSEXUA Afterglow, is set for release later this year, with some tracks evolving or disappearing as part of the album’s intentionally fluid concept.
