Bryton James, best known for his early role as Richie Crawford on Family Matters and for nearly two decades as Devon Hamilton on The Young and the Restless, has filed for divorce after less than a year of marriage.

Court documents filed in Los Angeles on Monday, October 13, confirm that James, 39, is seeking to legally separate from Jahaira James, whom he wed in March 2025.

The filing, obtained by People, lists irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split. The separation date is recorded as June, just three months after the couple exchanged vows.

According to the paperwork, the pair do not share children, and Bryant is asking the court to end the possibility of spousal support for either party. He is also requesting that Jahaira restore her previous name.

This marks the second marriage for Bryant. He was previously married to Ashley Leisinger from 2011 until 2014.

In a 2021 appearance on the State of Mind podcast with Maurice Benard, Bryant admitted he once doubted whether he would walk down the aisle again. “I don’t think I’d get married again because I have different ideas about the institution of marriage and where it comes from and what it’s about,” he said at the time.

Despite those reservations, the actor appeared optimistic earlier this year. In May, he publicly celebrated Jahaira’s work as a dancer on Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Tour, posting on social media that her artistry inspired him. “Her journey is what inspiration wants to be when it grows up,” he wrote in a caption that has since been deleted. “And I am beyond proud to be a witness to her art as we share this life together.”

Bryant has been a fixture on The Young and the Restless since 2004. His portrayal of Devon Hamilton has earned him two Daytime Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Younger Actor in 2007 and Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2020. He has also been nominated five additional times, cementing his reputation as one of the soap’s central figures.
