The GoFundMe launched in honor of Eric Dane is moving forward with clarity after questions briefly surrounded the campaign’s structure.

According to an updated statement from the platform, the fundraiser has been verified, and Dane’s family has been officially added as the beneficiary. GoFundMe also clarified that its Trust & Safety team conducted what it described as a routine review process.

“GoFundMe’s Trust & Safety team was previously working to gather additional information and help ensure the intended beneficiary was added to the fundraiser, as part of our standard review process,” a spokesperson said in an email. “The fundraiser was always live and accepting donations throughout the review process.”

The company also noted that earlier reports suggesting the fundraiser had been paused or frozen have since been corrected. The review, it said, was procedural—not punitive—and part of its standard efforts to ensure transparency when large sums are raised quickly.

The campaign, created in the days following Dane’s death on February 19, quickly gained traction online. It was launched to support his daughters, Billie and Georgia, and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars in a short period of time. High-profile contributions, including a $27,000 donation from Euphoria creators Sam and Ashley Levinson, helped amplify its visibility.

Initial scrutiny centered on who organized the fundraiser and whether it was formally connected to Dane’s family. The page listed its organizer as “Friends of the Dane Family,” which raised questions about oversight and the distribution of funds. GoFundMe’s review ultimately focused on confirming those details and ensuring the proper beneficiary was attached.

As the fundraiser moves forward, Rebecca Gayheart is publicly acknowledging the support pouring in from fans and the broader community.

According to People, on February 22, the actress shared a message on Instagram expressing gratitude in the wake of Dane’s death. “There aren’t words to express our gratitude,” she wrote. “You are truly holding us up during this difficult time.”

Gayheart added that she has been “blown away” by the “outpouring of love and support from our community,” sharing the message alongside a candlelit tribute to the late actor.

Her posts also included personal moments, featuring photos of Dane with their daughters and resharing tributes from friends and colleagues. Dane is survived by Gayheart and their two children, who he previously described as “the center of his world.”

Although the couple separated in 2018, Gayheart remained closely involved in Dane’s life and care following his ALS diagnosis in 2024. She has spoken openly about supporting him through the progression of the disease while raising their daughters, emphasizing the importance of “show[ing] up for people no matter what.”

Dane died at age 53 after what his family described as a “courageous battle with ALS.” In the months leading up to his death, he continued advocating for awareness around the disease and remained active in both his personal and professional life.
