Cher’s increasingly complicated family life has taken another unexpected turn.
The entertainment icon recently learned that her son, Elijah Blue Allman, fathered a now-15-year-old daughter named Ever with Kayti Edwards, Julie Andrews’s step-granddaughter.
According to People, Edwards—whose grandfather is Andrews’s late husband, director Blake Edwards—said she first became pregnant in 2010 after a brief relationship with Allman, but chose to raise Ever on her own because he “never wanted to be a parent.”
Allman allegedly revealed the existence of the child to his now-estranged wife after a 2021 overdose, sparking rumors within the family. But Cher did not fully learn the truth until last summer.
“Cher got in touch with me last June and asked if it was true, so I had to confess,” Edwards said. “She said she had heard something about it from Elijah back in 2021, but didn’t know if it was just crazy talk. When she heard the news, she was speechless.”
The discovery effectively links two of entertainment’s most famous family trees. Ever is the granddaughter of Cher and the great-granddaughter-by-marriage of Julie Andrews, the Oscar-winning star of The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, and The Princess Diaries.
Andrews’ blended family includes five children and several grandchildren, while Cher is the mother of two sons: Chaz Bono, whom she shares with the late Sonny Bono, and Elijah Blue Allman, her son with the late Gregg Allman.
Despite reportedly being stunned by the news, Cher has begun building a relationship with Ever. Edwards said Cher invited both of them to stay overnight at her Malibu home last September. During the visit, Cher showed the teenager pieces from her legendary wardrobe, including a pair of jeans she once wore onstage.
“She was lovely and kind, and we had dinner,” Edwards said. “Cher asked Ever if she wanted to see her closet and showed her a pair of jeans she had worn in concert.”
Edwards added that Cher later sent Ever both birthday and Christmas gifts. “Cher really is trying,” Edwards said. “It’s an adjustment.”
It is unclear if Julie Andrews was aware of Ever’s paternity.
The family revelation arrives during an especially turbulent period for Elijah. Cher recently filed a new request for a temporary conservatorship, alleging that her son is “gravely disabled” and unable to manage his finances because of “severe mental health and addiction issues.”
Elijah’s half-brother, Devon Allman, also weighed in, telling the court that Elijah is currently a danger to himself.
The legal filing came just weeks after Elijah was arrested twice in New Hampshire, including one incident involving an alleged break-in and another tied to a disturbance at a prep school.
He is scheduled to appear in court this week, while a hearing over Cher’s latest conservatorship request is set for April 24.
