Dwayne Johnson is set to take center stage at one of the industry’s major celebrations early next year.
The American Black Film Festival Honors, returning for its eighth edition, has locked in a full lineup of honorees—and tapped comedian and bestselling author KevOnStage to host the ceremony, according to Variety. The event will take place on February 16, 2026, at the SLS Hotel in Beverly Hills.
The night’s highest distinction, the Entertainment Icon Award, will go to the artist formerly known as The Rock. The honor arrives as Johnson continues receiving attention for his work in The Smashing Machine, A24’s upcoming film directed by Benny Safdie.
In the project, Johnson portrays MMA legend Mark Kerr, whose career and personal struggles are at the center of the story. The film made its debut at the Venice International Film Festival in September, where it earned the Silver Lion. Emily Blunt appears opposite Johnson as Kerr’s girlfriend.
The ABFF Honors will spotlight several other artists and creators across film and TV.
Jennifer Hudson, who has earned both Oscar and Grammy wins throughout her career, will receive the Renaissance Award. Salli Richardson-Whitfield, known for her work as both a director and executive producer on numerous acclaimed series, will be presented with the Evolution Award. Rising actor Damson Idris, who recently led the Formula 1-themed feature F1, will be recognized with the Horizon Award.
In addition to the individual honors, the ceremony will include a special tribute to the creative team behind Sinners, the recent Ryan Coogler-produced horror film starring Michael B. Jordan.
Nice Crowd co-CEOs and presidents Jeff Friday and Nicole Friday spoke about Johnson’s selection for the top award, noting, “Dwayne Johnson is the very definition of an entertainment icon. From his trailblazing career in sports entertainment to his extraordinary success in film and television, he has become one of the most influential and beloved figures in global culture. His journey embodies the power of perseverance, authenticity, and charisma — values that reflect the spirit of ABFF.”
