Dionne Warwick wasted absolutely no time responding to Netflix pulling the plug on Emily in Paris. After the streaming giant confirmed the romantic comedy-drama will wrap after its upcoming sixth season, Warwick hopped onto X with a response that felt years in the making: “That work visa expired.”
According to the BBC, Netflix announced on Thursday, May 21, that Season 6 will serve as the show’s final chapter. Lily Collins is returning as Emily alongside Ashley Park, Lucas Bravo, Lucien Laviscount, Samuel Arnold, and Bruno Gouery. Production has already started in Greece, with additional filming planned in Paris and Monaco.
According to creator Darren Star, the final season will continue after Season 5’s cliffhanger involving Gabriel inviting Emily on a trip to Greece, though he didn’t give much detail as to where the story would go from there.
The series premiered in 2020 and quickly became one of Netflix’s biggest global successes, pulling in massive streaming numbers while inspiring fashion trends, memes, and nonstop online commentary.
It also became a lightning rod for criticism from viewers who felt the show presented an overly polished, fantasy version of Paris.
Her first viral critique arrived in 2024 when she questioned the show’s entire premise in a post directed at Netflix. “Emily goes to her place of employment every day in Europe. Is that the entirety of the show?” she wrote.
When Netflix responded, Warwick followed up with another jab: “Well @netflix has responded, but did not provide an adequate answer. I Googled it. She goes to work.”
She revisited the joke again earlier this year while recovering from emergency leg surgery that forced her to cancel several performances.
