Corey Holcomb says the professional fallout from a resurfaced video of an altercation with a fellow comedian has been swift, brutal, and—according to him—directly tied to media coverage.
The longtime stand-up comic recently claimed that his career momentum stalled almost immediately after footage showing a confrontation between himself and fellow comedian Cristina Payne began circulating more widely online.
Holcomb has previously denied that he punched Payne, but he argues that once video entered the conversation, the damage was already done—regardless of his explanation.
Speaking on an episode of his 5150 podcast, Holcomb framed the situation less as a legal or moral issue and more as a business collapse driven by perception.
“I lost a lot of my gigs, by the way—thank you, TMZ,” he said, pointing to the outlet that initially reported the incident. “I lost another gig today… y’all got me good.”
According to Holcomb, venues that once booked him without hesitation are now pulling back, citing what he described as the “optics” surrounding the now-viral video. He emphasized vthat controversy has followed him throughout his career, but claimed this is the first time it has led to widespread cancellations.
“People been saying stuff about me forever,” he said. “But when TMZ says it, that’s different.”
The comedian also suggested the ripple effects have gone beyond live performances. He joked about stalled merchandise plans and losing momentum with fans, framing the situation as a broader erosion of his brand.
The incident itself dates back to November 2024, when TMZ first reported on an alleged altercation outside the Hollywood Improv. At the time, no video was publicly available.
Footage surfaced last month on an Instagram account called The Bizi, showing Holcomb and Payne in a heated exchange surrounded by onlookers. The outlet reported the two had been feuding prior to the incident.
