Anthony Mackie’s sci-fi film gamble, Elevation, is finally living up to its name—just not where the studio hoped.

After sputtering through a November 2024 theatrical run that scraped together only $3.6 million worldwide on an $18 million budget, the post‑apocalyptic thriller has surged to No. 4 on Amazon Prime Video’s global movie chart, per tracking site FlixPatrol, as of Monday, July 21.

The sudden glow‑up puts Elevation behind only Follow, The Accountant 2, and the John Cena–Idris Elba action‑comedy Heads of State, but the bigger headline is how fiercely the film is trending south of the equator.

Over the weekend, it landed the No. 1 slot in Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Honduras, Uruguay, and the Dominican Republic.

Directed by The Adjustment Bureau’s George Nolfi and co‑produced by Mackie himself, the movie follows Will (Mackie), a single dad holed up in the Colorado Rockies after Earth is overrun by Reapers—hungry, insectoid creatures that feed on human electrical impulses. With supplies dwindling and his young son’s hope fading, Will must navigate frozen passes, rogue militias, and the monsters themselves to reach an outpost rumored to hold a cure.

During its initial theatrical run, critics shrugged—Elevation sits at 55 percent on Rotten Tomatoes—but audiences were more generous, giving it an 80 percent score. That disparity might explain the film’s current renaissance: curiosity‑driven clicks from genre heads who skipped the theatrical release, plus fans loyal to Anthony Mackie’s post‑Falcon rise to Captain America status.

Elevation’s current Top 5 placement on Prime Video demonstrates how streaming platforms can revive audience interest after a limited box‑office run that totaled $3.6 million worldwide.

Anthony Mackie’s sci‑fi thriller is now available to stream on Prime Video and Max.
