Insecure star Amanda Seales says she was sexually assaulted in January 2023 and is now releasing a detailed written account of the incident, along with commentary on how it was handled, as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
In a May 4 Instagram video, Seales stated directly, “So in January 2023, I was sexually assaulted. The experience revealed a lot to me about myself. And it revealed even more to me about the incapacity of those around me to support me through this horrific experience.”
The post coincided with the release of an unpublished memoir chapter titled Crank Dat Through a Sexual Assault from her larger project Bodywavin’ Through the BS.
Seales has previously described the incident in detail on her podcast Small Doses. In that account, she said she was asleep in a bed with her boyfriend while on vacation when a man entered the room through an unlocked balcony door.
She said the intruder “put his hand between my legs” while she was “half asleep,” adding that she could not give police a clear description of the man. According to Seales, the lack of detail led law enforcement to dismiss the report.
The comedian revisited the subject in a 2024 episode titled “Side Effects of Sexual Assault,” where she connected the incident to longer-term impact beyond the moment itself. That episode focused on what she described as the “aftermath, healing, and… non-physical effects of such trauma,” expanding on how the experience continued to affect her well after the initial report.
Her decision to publish the memoir excerpt now is tied to April’s Sexual Assault Awareness Month in the United States. In the caption accompanying the release, she wrote that the essay “shares the experience of and after of a sexual assault I suffered while on vacation,” and added, “I hope this work helps all of us in constant motion toward reclaiming our souls from a world wired to take them.”
Seales’s comments also land alongside prior public scrutiny around how she has previously discussed sexual misconduct. According to The Miami Herald, in 2019, she addressed confusion tied to allegations involving former NFL player Myron Rolle, stating in an Instagram clarification, “I never accused Myron Rolle of sexually harassing me,” while explaining she had referenced claims from other women.
