Netflix’s ‘Worst Ex Ever’ Revisits ‘90 Day Fiancé’ Star’s Brutal Assault Case

Netflix’s ‘Worst Ex Ever’ revisits the violent case that sent the ‘90 Day Fiancé’ alum to prison — and why Varya Malina still stands by him.

Geoffrey Paschel’s assault conviction is getting renewed attention through Netflix’s Worst Ex Ever, but the former 90 Day Fiancé star is still in a relationship with his co-star, Varya Malina, while serving an 18-year prison sentence.

Paschel, who appeared on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, is featured in Season 2 of the Netflix true-crime series, which premiered May 6. The episode revisits his relationship history and the violent 2019 attack on his former fiancée, Kristen Wilson Chapman, before he was convicted of aggravated kidnapping, domestic assault, and interference with emergency communications.

Malina, who met Paschel while living in Russia, has continued to publicly support him since his sentencing. The couple’s relationship began on the TLC series, where cameras followed Paschel as he traveled from Tennessee to Russia to meet her in person.

Malina later moved to the United States, and according to Worst Ex Ever, she now lives in Paschel’s Tennessee home, cares for his dogs, and helps manage his rental properties.

“As many of you know, my man is currently serving time in prison,” Malina wrote in a 2023 Instagram post. She added that she had chosen “to travel more, explore new horizons, and let the world be my guide.”

In another post, she denied rumors that she and Paschel had split, writing, “Geoffrey and I are the closest of people and the most important emotional support for each other.”

Paschel’s conviction came after a Knox County jury found him guilty in 2021. According to the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals opinion affirming the case, Chapman testified that Paschel grabbed her, slammed her head into the floor, dragged her by her hair, disabled her phone, and prevented her from calling for help. The court later upheld his conviction and sentence, rejecting arguments that the evidence was insufficient.

Paschel is also the latest reality TV figure to land on Worst Ex Ever, following the series’ recent spotlight on Florida killer Wade Wilson, the man known online as the “Deadpool Killer.” That episode renewed attention toward Wilson’s murder case and ongoing death-row appeal.
