Twitch Streamer and content creator Wendy Ortiz has asserted that racism against Mexicans is “normalized” in the streaming community.

During a recent stream, Ortiz spoke about Miss Mexico Fátima Bosch winning Miss Universe, which prompted some backlash online. “That’s so weird,” she said, to which one of her co-hosts asked why people were hating on her. “Just ‘cause they hate to see a Mexican girl win in life. They literally just hate us. … They’re literally just haters.”

Ortiz then said that she was about to get “a little controversial” and air her thoughts on racism against Mexicans in the streaming community. “I saw Alexa Demie say in an interview that she got denied so many roles because she’s Latina,” she said. “I don’t know why, even in the streaming industry, why is racism towards Mexicans so normalized. Like there’s literally so many clips of everybody making fun of Latinos or Hispanics or Mexicans, and it’s actually insane how normalized it is. And they’re not cancelled, and nobody ever says shit what they’ve said. It’s insane.”

Ortiz explained that she’s seen a lot of clips where this type of racism receives little to no pushback. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to get controversial,” she continued. “Honestly, I don’t feel like that there’s that many Hispanic streamers.” Ortiz listed a number of popular Hispanic streamers, and noted that Fanum counts. "That's my hot take, don't normalize racism towards Hispanic people or Mexican people," she concluded.
