Last year it was announced that Space Jam 2 was officially happening, with LeBron James taking the lead role. Later on, Black Panther director Ryan Coogler signed on to produce, and Random Acts of Flyness creator Terence Nance was revealed as the project's director. The team behind the highly anticipated sequel to the 1996 original has been talking it up big-time, letting fans know they're in for something special.

In recent chat with Vice, Nance has promised that it'll surprise people when it arrives.

“Pretty sure [it's] going to disrupt everything,” he told Vice. “I’m excited about what that movie can be.” While he didn't give too many hints on what to expect, both him and LeBron James have indicated that they're treating the project very seriously. It's currently expected to start shooting during the NBA offseason this year, within a 20-mile radius of Los Angeles. The estimated budget for the movie sits at $100 million, making it Nance's biggest project by far.

SpringHill Entertainment dropped a teaser image in September, 2018 to let fans know Space Jam 2 has entered pre-production.

The only cast announced for Space Jam 2 so far is LeBron and Eric Bauza, who takes over from Billy West who played Bugs Bunny and Elmer Fudd in the first film. It's currently not known if Danny DeVito will return as main antagonist Mr. Swackhammer, or if Michael Jordan and Bill Murray will reprise their roles as themselves.
