Taika Waititi Addresses 'Thor' Fans Shipping Valkyrie and Captain Marvel

When Thor: Love and Thunder was announced at San Diego Comic-Con, star Tessa Thompson teased fans about Valkyrie's future relationships.

"First order of business as new king [of Asgard], she needs to find her queen," she said. In a deleted scene from Thor: Ragnarok, Thompson's character even revealed that she was bisexual. This all culminated in fans shipping Valkyrie with Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, which is something both ostars have already mentioned in passing. Love and Thunder writer and director, Taika Waiti, however, doesn't want fans to get their hopes up.

"The thing is, I think it’s dangerous for people to say too much about what they want with Marvel, because then they will tend to go the other way," he said in an interview with Wired. "You want to listen to the fans to a point. But also you don’t want to have a completely fan-made film because then it doesn’t feel like there’s any point. You want to have people surprised."

When fans started to ship a romance between Valkyrie and Captain Marvel, Larson and Thomspon confirmed they loved the idea. "We're here to ship y'all," Larson said at ACE Comic Con in Chicago. "We can dig into it, I'm just telling you that we're shipping." Thompson added, "Brie is my real-lfie queen, in general. If it becomes canon, that's cool, too."

Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege also confirmed that Valkyrie will be the MCU's first LGBTQ hero earlier this year, but fans shouldn't expect to see her with Captain Marvel anytime soon.
