On Tuesday it was reported and subsequently confirmed that Sony had ended its relationship with Marvel Studios. In other words, Spider-Man will no longer appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is a massive blow for fans and for the MCU itself. Sources indicate that director Jon Watts and star Tom Holland will remain attached to the franchise, but Peter Parker won't be turning up in any crossover event movies anytime soon.
The partnership reportedly fell apart after the companies failed to reach an agreement, with Disney requesting a 50/50 co-financing deal. Sony reportedly didn't offer a counter to the rejected deal.
As a result, #SaveSpidey has started to trend on Twitter. After the success of Far From Home and Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, it would be a shame to see Peter Parker exit the MCU so soon.

Sony released a statement on Wednesday that claimed Marvel Studios producer Kevin Feige was pulled from the franchise by Disney, although sources close to the situation have said it's a money issue. "We are disappointed, but respect Disney's decision not to have him continue as a lead producer of our next live action Spider-Man film," the statement reads. "We hope this might change in the future."
While Sony has indicated the company is willing to collaborate with Marvel in the future, as of right now it seems doubtful. Sony and Marvel Studios first came to agreement over Spider-Man in the MCU with 2016's Captain America: Civil War, which rebooted the character just two years after the critically panned The Amazing Spider-Man 2 starring Andrew Garfield.
