Lauren London Talks Gun Violence, Losing Nipsey Hussle on 'Red Table Talk'

On the latest episode of Red Table Talk, Lauren London spoke out against gun violence and opened up about coping with grief following Nipsey Hussle's death. Speaking with Jada Pinkett-Smith, London explained that she educates her children on how to handle police interactions, and how gun violence in Los Angeles has personally impacted her.

"What I instill in them is more about the police," she said when asked what lessons she teaches her two sons. "How to handle yourself when you get pulled over. That's more of my education, protecting them being black men in America." She also reflected on her own upbringing, commenting on how in high school, she saw how badly gun violence impacts lives long before Nipsey was fatally shot in March 2019.

"In high school, a lot of the boys were in gangs, and I remember that a lot of our friends, by summertime they were gone," she said. "They had transitioned from gun violence. So you kind of got... I don’t want to say numb, but used to hearing it." In talking with Jada, the pair shared their trauma of going to parties as teenagers and "having to be on guard" due to gun violence. "Most of us grow up in war zones," Jada added. "And I did not even realize that until my life changed."

London also touched upon the late Nipsey, with whom she had a child in 2016. "I love to meet people that Nip has really inspired," she said, "because it feels like he's still here." She mentioned that Nipsey clearly inspired a lot of his fans, and to know that he's still connecting with people means a lot to her. "He would have loved to hear that, you know?"
