Watch the New Teaser Trailer for ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel ‘House of the Dragon’

HBO has unleashed the first teaser trailer for 'House of the Dragon,' the new 'Game of Thrones' prequel series set to debut later this year.

HBO has finally unleashed the first teaser trailer for House of the Dragon, the new Game of Thrones prequel series set to debut later this year.

Starring Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, and Olivia Cooke, House of the Dragon is based on George R. R. Martin’s 2018 novel Fire & Blood. Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones and the Song of Ice and Fire book saga it was based on, the new series is set to premiere on Aug. 21, 2022. While GoT showed the last of the Targaryens vying for the Iron Throne, House of the Dragon promises to show the house’s violent reign.

The new series was created by GoT author George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal, who will also serve as an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside director Miguel Sapochnik. As Variety reported last month, HBO gave a significant budget to the show with just under $20 million per episode. By contrast, Game of Thrones cost HBO $15 million per episode by the time it reached its final season.

To coincide with the release of the new teaser trailer, HBO also shared a series of posters showing the extensive cast of characters. Check out the teaser up top, and the character posters below.
