HBO Will Air 2-Hour Making of 'Game of Thrones' Documentary After Series Ends

The final season of HBO's 'Game of Thrones' is nearly upon us.

The final season of HBO's Game of Thrones is nearly upon us. Season 8 will finally kick off on April 14 and run until May 19, but the network has just announced that a week later fans will be treated to a two-hour making-of documentary chronicling everything that went into those last six episodes.

The Jeanie Finlay-directed doc Game of Thrones: The Last Watch will debut on May 26, offering everyone one last chance to say goodbye to the absolutely massive series. Promising in-depth access, The Last Watch is being billed as a feature-length film rather than a traditional behind-the-scenes peek.

Producers and actors have gone on record in saying this is easily the most ambitious season of the show yet, making this documentary all the more tantalizing. HBO chief Richard Pleper referred to the batch of supersized episodes as "a spectacle." He added, "The guys have done six movies. The reaction I had when watching them was, 'I'm watching a movie.'"

Of course, this won't be the last time that Game of Thrones fans will get to visit Westeros as HBO previously announced they were committing to a prequel series by ordering a pilot. Naomi Watts and Josh Whitehouse have already been cast alongside eight rising stars, although details on what to expect are slim. Author and producer George R.R. Martin did let slip the rumored title for the project, The Long Night, but right now there's not even an expected air date or confirmation of a series order.
