Evan Rachel Wood Discusses Marilyn Manson Sexual Abuse Allegations in HBOs ‘Phoenix Rising’ Trailer

HBO has shared a trailer for 'Phoenix Rising,' a two-part documentary that sees actress Evan Rachel Wood detail abuse allegations against Marilyn Manson.

HBO has shared the first trailer for Phoenix Rising, a two-part documentary that sees actress Evan Rachel Wood detail abuse allegations against Marilyn Manson.

The movie, directed and produced by Amy Berg, premiered at Sundance Film Festival last month. The newly released trailer shows Wood going through journals from her teenage years, hinting at how far back Manson allegedly groomed her.

“He studied how to manipulate people, he groomed her,” says Woods’ mother Sara in the trailer. “He’s a predator.”

The documentary is expected to reveal more details regarding the alleged abuse, and will see Wood meet with other survivors of sexual and domestic abuse. The brief YouTube description reads, “When the laws don’t protect you, change them.” Phoenix Rising premieres on HBO on March 15, with the second part to follow on March 16.

Wood first went public with her allegations against the controversial rock musician, who appeared at Kanye West’s Donda 2 event on Tuesday, in a statement on Instagram last year. She alleged that Manson “started grooming me when I was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years.”

Following the premiere of the doc at Sundance, Variety reported that Wood said she was “essentially raped on camera” while filming the 2007 video for Manson’s song “Heart-Shaped Glasses.” Wood, who was 19 when the video was filmed, said she was given absinthe on set. “We had discussed a simulated sex scene, but once the cameras were rolling, he started penetrating me for real,” she said. “I had never agreed to that. … It was complete chaos. I did not feel safe. No one was looking after me.”
