Elon Musk, the richest man on earth and CEO of Tesla, has repeatedly claimed that he's one of the world's best gamers, but video game fans find those claims hard to believe after he streamed himself playing the action RPG Path of Exile 2.
As reported by Vice, Musk kicked off his recent Path of Exile 2 stream by chatting with followers about everything from artificial intelligence to SpaceX, before seemingly struggling with the core game mechanics. He attempted to access a map that he doesn't have access to yet, and when he finally managed to get into the game he did so with a baffling inventory of items he possibly didn't curate himself.
With all of Musk's high-level gear, he breezed through the map, but many viewers noted that the stash tab he was playing in was called "Elon's Map," perhaps giving away that someone put the player profile together for him.
"This is max difficulty on Hardcore. If there’s a way to get higher difficulty, I don’t know what it is. This is everything maxed out," Musk told viewers at one point, as if to flex his gamer credentials. He also emphasized how difficult the game was while trying to pick up items when he had a full inventory.
After the stream, many gamers cast doubt on whether Musk had legitimately grinded his way to the high level he was at.
"I can say after watching an hour of this livestream that I would put, like, $100,000 or more on a bet... that Elon did not level this character from level 1 to level 90 himself," said YouTuber Cynicalex.
Path of Exile 2 is not the only game Musk is known for playing. Last year, he technically became ranked as the world's best Diablo 4 player.
Reporter Joseph Cox, who previously broke down why Musk's build in the popular action RPG Elden Ring was so awful, told Gizmodo that the Tesla CEO was constantly running past high-value loot and ignored basic game mechanics.
"His constant emphasizing in the stream that what he is doing is very, very difficult while seemingly not understanding what he’s actually doing is incredibly on brand for the attention and love desperate Musk," he added.
